    The 144,000

This week’s blog is simply a question. Next Sunday evening we will walk through Revelation 7. In verse 4, we will encounter 144,000 “servants of God” who are “sealed” before the Trumpet Judgments are unleashed on the unbelieving world prior to the mid-point of the Tribulation. There has been much speculation about who they are and even some wild claims made by various groups about their identity. So, I want you to examine verses 1-8 and answer this question: Who are the 144,000? And while you’re at it, go ahead and identify the “great multitude” in verses 9-17. I look forward to reading your answers!

    THE SCROLL

We are still in the throne room of God in Revelation 5 when suddenly something very important happens. It will set the tone for the remainder of the book, beginning in Chapter 6. Right in the middle of worshiping God, the attention shifts. Something captures john’s attention. It is interesting that out of all the things he is seeing in the throne room, one seemingly insignificant thing catches his eye.  It is a scroll in the hand of God who is on the throne. In the midst of this awe-inspiring scene, the magnificence of the throne, the brilliance of its appearance, the 24 Elders, the Holy Spirit, the 4 Living…

The Church: In or Out of the Tribulation?

“Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.” Revelation 3:10 NIV There are 2 MAJOR POSSIBILITIES for the meaning of that verse: 1) It is a promise of the Rapture of the Church 2) It is simply part of a message to a Real Church in the late 1st Century A.D. Here’s my question: Why not both? The messages fit not only those 7 churches of Asia Minor, but also every church through the ages, including present day. They are also a part…

A Watered Down Church In A Wicked World

In last night’s study of Revelation 2:8-29, we looked at 3 churches: Smyrna, Pergamum and Thyatira. I want to briefly discuss one of those: Pergamum. 3 things stand out about this church. They were located where Satan had his throne, where Satan lived. They remained true to Jesus and did not renounce their faith in him. They allowed false teachings and the practice of open sin. Pergamum was the capital city and religious center of the Roman province of Asia Minor. There were 4 temples in the city which were dedicated to the worship of Greek gods, and 3 temples dedicated to Roman Emperors, who were also worshiped as gods.…

    NIKE (Revelation 2:7)

In last night’s Revelation study we saw that the Greek word “Nikao” means “victor or overcomer.” Jesus made a promise to those in the Church at Ephesus: “To him who is victorious (overcomes), I will give the right to eat from the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.” Let’s look a little more closely at that word translated as “victorious or overcomes.” Nike derived its name from this word. I see them as saying, “If you wear our shoes and our apparel, you will overcome in the battle and be victorious!” But it is where the word came from that helps us understand it more. In…

Outline of the Letters to the 7 Churches in Revelation 2-3

This Sunday night, June 21, at 8pm on my David Bullock FB page, we will move to the messages to the 7 churches of Asia Minor in Revelation 2-3. A specific outline is used in each letter for each church. We will talk about this more Sunday night, but this will help you be prepared. I don’t know about you, but I am having a GREAT time with this study! I am thankful for all of you! Now to the outlines for the letters. 1) CHRIST: Each letter begins with one of the characteristics of Christ given in Chapter 1. These are important! 2) COMMENDATION: The churches are commended by…

Greek Words and THE Revelation from 1:1-11

I was asked to list some of the Greek words I used in last night’s (June 7) study of The Revelation 1:1-11. I love to use the original Greek because it gives us the literal meaning of the word and helps us understand scripture much better. With that in mind, here are a few of those from last night. αποκαλυψις: Prounounced Apokalupsis. (Verse 1) It is from this that we get the word Apocalypse, which is a popular word used to refer to the book, and maybe even more, to the End Time. But the important thing is the meaning. It means: “unveiling or uncovering; a disclosure of knowledge; a…

Daniel 9:24-27 The Timeline to the End Time

The most asked question following last night’s Introduction to The Revelation concerned the timeline I mentioned from Daniel 9:24-27. The Angel Gabriel appeared to Daniel and said this: 24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place. 25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench,…
